A tale of two tails!

What a month for tails! This August we had two iguanas surrendered that were in need of tail amputations. Jim was given up by a private party who didn't realize that the last six inches of Jim's tail was necrotic (dead). So it was a trip to the clinic where Dr. Anna Ulfeng performed the amputation. Jim is fully recovered and full of "spit and vinegar" according to Dr. Ulfeng!

A female iguana was captured outside and taken to the Golden Valley Humane Society. When RICA picked her up, it was evident that she had a tail injury that required amputation. She has been named New Hope for the city she was found in. Dr. Noemi Plantz did an excellent job on New Hope's surgery.

SmartyPants has a fungal skin infection, so another trip to the clinic! Dr. John Baillie sent a skin culture for lab work and the good news is that it only skin deep. So SmartyPants is getting medicated soaks and anti-fungal cream applied three times a week. He's looking better already, but he will still be in rehab for a few more months.

As you can imagine, RICA has quite the vet bill! Now more than ever, we need your help to pay down our bill. We are still working on getting 501c certification, so unfortunately, your donations are not tax deductible, yet. However, all money goes directly to helping the iguanas; housing, food, lights,  equipment, and veterinary care are all paid for out of volunteer pockets and through donations from animal lovers like you!

The iguanas at RICA thank you!
